Garmin Nuvi Recall Following the Product’s Battery Failure
Garmin Nuvi series, the GPS tracker products from leading GPS device manufacturer Garmin, has recently been recalled from the markets. Before the recalling decision, the Nuvi devices have been sold approximately 1.25 million sets worldwide in which at least 800,000 sets were traded in the United States itself. Before the recall, the Garmin Nuvi products were known to be helpful GPS trackers with slim designs, wide screen displays, and extra 3D technology for certain Garmin Nuvi types.
The flaws in the Garmin Nuvi series lie in the battery. These personal navigation devices are later found to have been installed with life risking batteries. The batteries used for the mentioned Garmin Nuvi models have the tendency to be overheated if used for a long duration. The overheating will risk some fire threat for a small amount of cases. This, however, was officially announced by Garmin during their press released on August 25, 2010. To repair the mistake, Garmin voluntarily recalled the products. Garmin Nuvi recalled from the market are those models numbered with 200W, 250W, 260W, and 7xx. For additional info, the xx code following the 7xx model means alternation of two digit numbers. Garmin customers who suspect to have the defective models can check their own devices by directly visiting Garmin’s official website.
Garmin’s announcement was to recall the devices, but not to replace them with new products or to give back the consumers’ money. Instead, the Garmin Nuvi Recall which has been going on since the announcing date is intended to fix the battery problem. Garmin Nuvi products returned by the consumers will undergo a battery replacement process. After an old battery is replaced with the new one and equipped with a spacer on the surface, the device will be ready to return to its previous owner. The consumers do not have to pay for the service.
